Say that you are a realtor considering doing a newsletter and you talk to a couple of your compatriots who tell you that newsletters are dead and you are wasting your time. But is it true? Are real estate newsletters dead?
What A Real Estate Newsletter Is
Let’s start with what a real estate newsletter is. When you start, you are thinking all about yourself and how you are putting yourself out there. That is dead wrong! Real estate newsletters are all about THEM, your clients, your prospects, people who live in your farm, investors or whoever you are writing for.
Real Estate Newsletters - Growing A List
The other part of having a newsletter is having and growing a list of people who are connected to you.
I have a little story to share with you, my husband and I needed life insurance. We found some woman who came well recommended, but who was not a trusted resource. Come to find out, our accountant sells life insurance and we LOVE him. The problem was that we had no idea he sold life insurance!
So how does that apply to you? Everyone knows you sell real estate, right? Well maybe. But do they know…
- That you can refer them to agents across the country and be their advocate throughout the transaction.
- Do they know that you will happy to help their friends and family.
- That you have connections to other professionals who could help them refinance or reduce their insurance rates?
The biggest part of having any kind of newsletter or marketing plan, is having a list.
How To Grow A List
There are normal ways to grow a list for realtors including, holding open houses, referrals from your current sphere and using the tax records in the MLS to grow a farm. That is GREAT and I am a huge proponent for these types of lists (you should be adding at least 5 people to list per day).
What no one wants to tell you is that starting today and moving forward, if you are going to really do marketing, you need a way to grow an online list. This could be through an IDX service, but almost every realtor has something like that, no difference there.
What you really need to do is start an internet marketing campaign where you can collect names and email addresses from your website! You should be offering something great like a relocation package, a free video tour of your farm area or even a list of local vendors who are amazing and can help them keep up their home.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE stop doing what all the other realtors are doing. Offering a free market analysis or CMA makes you look like everyone else. Start making your real estate business different!!!
